Evicted villagers fear for their safety

Resident from Nyaung Ni village tract, who were forcefully evicted from purported military-owned land, are concerned for their safety as they have been warned not to leave the village, or they will face arrest starting 1 February.

“This morning, when the children went to school, they [plain-clothed men] shouted and tried to catch the children. The children were frightened and ran away. We haven’t had any contact with them so far. We dare not go alone outside the village. We are worried for our safety,” Daw Khin Mi (not her real name) told The Myanmar Times on 1 February.
